The Kindergarten Quilt

  • This quilt was made during my daughter’s first six months at a Waldorf kindergarten, when I stayed with her in the room as she settled in. In Waldorf education each day of the week corresponds with a colour. The staff and children wear the colour of the day as a way of anchoring the children into the weekly rhythm. My daughter attended on pink and yellow days. I pieced this quilt top during that time and realised later that I had unconsciously created a palette which reflected the colours of the days she attended! The hand quilting and hand binding was all done while I was sitting quietly in the kindergarten room.
