Care Instructions
Quilts should be hand washed only when necessary, around once per year. Best done in the summer months to speed up the drying process.
Never machine wash or dry a handmade quilt.
Fill up a clean sink or bathtub with cool water. Add a gentle liquid detergent. Submerge the quilt for around 20mins and very gently agitate to fabric to loosen any dirt. Drain the water and fill the tub again with fresh water. Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the water to help remove detergent residue. Repeat the rinsing process until the water and quilt are free of soap.
Empty the sink/bath and gently squeeze out excess water. Be cautious not to wring the quilt out or to hang it out to dry as both these actions will damage the stitching and warp the batting. The best place to dry the quilt is laid flat on a towel in a shady place to avoid sun bleaching the colours.
Quilts are made to be used and if cared for appropriately will last for several generations.
