Light hinting towards equinox

It began with another week of scorchers. The kind that press against the windows by 10am and suck the colour from the garden. Again broken by a cool change. A proper one, sudden. Real, saturating rain and with it sweet relief.

The mornings are different now. The sun is rising later, sliding sideways through the kitchen windows. The light is fuller, russet rose-gold. Shadows sleek and dark. The equinox will arrive soon, and behind it I sense the allure of autumn waiting in the wings, even while the heat refuses to step aside just yet.

My latest Zadie is finished. Cloth that began its life as a flat bedsheet is now a buttery-soft linen jumpsuit. French seamed, mostly, and the most perfect grey blue. Many years of wear ahead. Next up, a wearable toile of the Arthur pants by Sew Liberated. My first wearable toile was so big I deemed it unwearable, though luckily it found a home with Shelley, who is a size smaller than me but can absolutely pull off parachute pants. For this next pair, I am sizing down two sizes, taking three inches from the rise and another from the length. They are cut from a sweet ikat from Woven Stories.

After pollination troubles, not enough watering, and so many hot days, the zucchinis are finally coming in. Tomatoes blushing from green toward red. Dahlias still steadily popping each day.

Immunity gummies definitely won the lunchbox test this week. Soft, fruity, slightly herbal. Recipe is on the journal now.

I was halfway through The Slap when all my library holds arrived at once. No matter how carefully I space them, this always seems to happen. So now I am beginning Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. I adored Devotion more than expected and am looking forward to settling into her work again.

And finally, this week’s small discovery. Gewürzhaus. Their Japanese curry blend has been sitting in the drawer for years, unopened. Last Sunday we needed a quick dinner, so I followed their recipe and could hardly believe how good it was. Rich. Spicy. Delectable. I cannot wait to try more.
